It requires background in Visual Basic and SQL, both ofwhich I happen to be well versed in. The cognitive skills required for this position would be far greaterthan for either of the other two. The ability to apply my knowledge ofaccounting in real-life situations would be essential, and the ability toconduct analysis of accounting facts and reports would be integral to mysuccess. Affective skills needed would beaccepting responsibility, demonstrating self-reliance, and adhering toethical standards of accounting. Inaddition, the company professes to be committed to its employees and toprovide them with opportunities for development. GE has long been an innovator, both in electronics and in itsmanagement of people, and its willingness to redefine itself to remaincompetitive has resulted in creative approaches such as the boundarylessorganizational structure that former CEO Jack Welch implemented and that Ihave recommended to other company leaders on a few occasions. Blue Shield is obviously a well-knowncompany, and as the Finance and Pricing Modeler, I would be in a positionthat informs and directs high-level decision-making in the company, eventhough the position itself is an entry-level position. This job is a bitdifferent from the other two in that it combines accounting with computer-related work. Affective skills would include a positive attitude despite thefact that Gallup would not be able to place me in a position immediatelybut would be bringing me on board in preparation for a future position.Other relevant affective skills would include emotional intelligence indealing with coworkers and clients and self-reliance that allows me tohandle issues on my own as well as in a collaborative manner with myteammates. The second job announcement that I qualified for and was interested inwas the "GE Uses-Finance/Accounting Internship."
