Paper Abstract:
Homo Erectus & Homo Sapiens Sapiens DESCRIPTION: This paper provides a discussion of why researchers now believe that modern man – Homo sapiens sapiens – evolved from Homo erectus, or “upright man” and not Neandertal Man. Similarities between the two species are the focus.

Paper Introduction:
Homo Erectus Homo Sapiens Sapiens Introduction Homo erectus or upright man was the first species of hominid tomigrate out of Africa Homo Most researchers believe that Homo sapiens knowing man evolved from Homo erectus making modern man a chronospecies Homo While this is generally agreed upon byresearchers there is still uncertainty as to how and where Homo erectusultimately gave rise to Homo sapiens This analysis will discuss to whatextent Homo erectus is comparable in anatomy and culture to modern man orHomo sapiens

"Homo Erectus To Modern Man: Evolution or Human Variability?" Journal of Creation, 8(1), April 1994, 1 5-116. "History of Homo Sapiens." History World. AsLubenow (14 ) notes of these similarities, "These are very humancharacteristics." Other similarities include the finding of fossildiscoveries that demonstrate there are intermediate characteristics ofevolution shared between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens. The"multiregional" hypothesis contends that "Homo erectus evolved into Homosapiens not once but several times as each subspecies of Homo erectusliving in its own territory, passes some critical threshold" (Homo 2).Many believe that Homo sapiens is the bridge between Homo erectus and Homosapiens sapiens because of such theories. For these reasons many continueto view Homo erectus as the forerunner of Homo sapiens sapiens. Encyclopædia Britannica Online. Otherwise, Homo erectus and Homo sapiens sapiens are fairlysimilar, including their mutual ability to stand and move upright that ischaracteristic of modern man. This analysis will discuss to whatextent Homo erectus is comparable in anatomy and culture to modern man, orHomo sapiens sapiens. Body There is no distinct boundary between Homo erectus and Homo sapiensas far as species distinctions go. Researchers at Pennsylvania State University have discovered thatthe DNA of Homo erectus is comparable to that of Homo sapiens, while theDNA of Neandertal Man is not comparable to modern humans. In fact, many argue in light of newevidence from DNA testing and other research that Homo sapiens are theconnecting link between Homo erectus and modern man or Homo sapienssapiens. This has caused onpaleontologist to argue, "Between the first and the last erectus specimens, there are no major morphological excursions; merely a thicker brow ridgehere, a subtle variation of tooth structure there, and not much else"(Mehlert 1 9). Most researchers believe that Homo sapiens("knowing man") evolved from Homo erectus, making modern man a"chronospecies" (Homo 1). Some paleontologists, including Lubenow (123), argue that Homoerectus, Homo sapiens, and Neandertal Man form one "continuum." Despitethis contention, many believe that though Homo erectus is a bit differentthan Homo sapiens they are not so far apart to be considered separatespecies. As Lubenow (12 ) notes, below the neck "Homo erectus and Homossapiens are virtually identical." Lubenow (121) notes that when fossilsare compared, Homo erectus and modern man are "contemporaries." In size, weight, height and cranial capacity, Homo erectus and Homo sapiens sapiensare comparable. Homo erectus had much more massivejaws with enormous molars, was absent a chin, and had thicker brow ridgescompared to Homo sapiens sapiens. 2 8. 2 8 http://www.britannica.com/ EBchecked/topic/27 386/Homo-erectus, 1-2.Lubenow, Marvin L. Conclusion In conclusion, an increasing amount of evidence, including DNAtechnology, continues to link Homo erectus as having evolved into Homosapiens sapiens, with Homo sapiens the bridge connecting the two. As onepaleontologist asserts, "Many skulls have been found with featuresintermediate between the two" (Mehlert 7). Homo erectus had some distinctions compared to modern human beings. They had a slightly smaller brain capacity, between 9 cc to 12 cccompared to the average brain size of 135 cc for Homo sapiens sapiens(Gascoigne 2). Other than brow ridge and molar structure, there is verylittle evolutionary change in Homo erectus populations over more than oneand a quarter million years (Mehlert 1 9). Fromanatomical and cultural similarities between the two species to newevidence that disconnects Homo sapiens sapiens from Neandertal Man; itappears researchers have discovered the true origins of modern man in thespecies of Homo erectus.Works CitedGacoigne, Bamber. Likewise, Homo erectus had a longer andlower skull than modern humans and, in general, was built sturdier and muchstronger. Anatomically, only the head and the face of Homo erectusdiffered significantly from modern man. 16 June 2 8, 1-2."Homo Erectus." Encyclopædia Britannica. For example, at many excavations siteswhere Homo erectus remains have been found, there is significant evidenceof the use of tools, the use of controlled fire, and the use of speech. 11 Oct. While this is generally agreed upon byresearchers, there is still uncertainty as to how and where Homo erectusultimately gave rise to Homo sapiens. Homo erectus and Homo sapiens sapiens are also comparable acrosssome cultural aspects of existence. 82822 Homo Erectus & Homo Sapiens Sapiens Introduction Homo erectus or "upright man" was the first species of hominid tomigrate out of Africa (Homo 1). Bones of Contention: A Creationist Assessment of Human Fossils. Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 1992.Mehlert, Bill.
